Hours earlier, theDaily Mailreported on a dispute between James and the Duke of Sussex said to have occurred in 2011, during which tensions escalated to the point that their mutual friend David Beckham had to intervene.

The prince and the footballer had met with a group of friends at the exclusive members’ venue the Arts Club in London’s Mayfair for a Christmas night out.
James arrived later that night, having performed in his West End playOne Man, Two Guvnors.
When he joined the group, who had already had a few drinks, a then 26-year-old Harry drunkenly made a joke aboutJames’appearance that allegedly left him “absolutely raging.”

“There was rapture when he arrived. He was a much-loved part of the group, and there were hugs and giggles,” asource told the outlet.
“The group was pretty large. There were some of Harry’s friends, some of James’ friends, and some of David’s gang, and they all intertwined.
“Then it all kicked off. James was furious. It quickly emerged that Harry had told a joke, and James definitely did not find it funny.”
In the end, it wasDavid Beckham, who was close to both men, who stepped in as peacemaker during the evening.

Once the tensions eased, some of the friends left the exclusive Arts Club to continue drinking at the Savoy Hotel.

The alleged fight led to a close friendship between the two. In 2018,theLate Late Showpresenterhad hosting duties at Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding reception.
When the Sussexes moved to California two years later,James featured Harry in a segmentof his show where they rode a double-decker bus and rapped theFresh Prince Of Bel-Airtheme song before James tried to convince Meghan that the couple should purchase the house used in the hit sitcom.
They also participated in a military-style obstacle course to remind Harry of his days in the British Army and talked about his relationship with Meghan.
James’ wife, Julia Carey, andMeghanare close friends, and James once mentioned that his children had playdates with theSussex kids, Archie and Lilibet.

While James and Harry developed a friendship after that evening, David Beckhamreportedly became distant from both of them.
According to the outlet,Harry and Meghanaccused David and Victoria Beckham of leaking personal stories about their lives.
Additionally, the former Manchester United player is said to have little contact with James.
This Christmas Day was more stress-free for James than the one in 2011, as 12.5 million viewers tuned in for the much-anticipated finale of his BBC sitcomGavin & Stacey.
