Back in March, TikTok content creator@maartinapanchetti,or Martina Panchetti, posted a video about a situation in her life that not only melted her heart but soon melted people’s online, too.

Martina’s neighbors, who are a family, were being noisy. More specifically, there was quite a lot of pianonoisecoming from their home. So, Martina’s household decided to send these neighbors a letter asking them to make less noise with the piano, especially in the early mornings. To talk a bit more about music in contexts like these,Bored Pandareached out to music educator Bryson Tarbet from“That Music Teacher.”

Bryson said that when learning to play an instrument, a person should be aware of several practical things. For example, shared walls: “Having a piano up against, or having a wind instrument facing a shared wall will likely create more shared sound than intended.” Also, there’s a time of the day dilemma, which, in a way, was the catalyst for today’s story’s event.

But overall, if certain practical things are properly considered, there’s nothing much to worry about: “We can’t have the next greatest violinist, songwriter, or even opera singer without having a musician who is just getting started.”

“Dear neighbors,

Thank you for your kind message. We realize that sometimes we can be noisy and naughty :). We started learning piano and our teachers told us to practice every day. But we sincerely apologize for not considering the times of the day and the weekends. To be honest, mommy has been telling us not to play in the mornings and she also wants to get some sleep on the weekends. We promise YOU and we promise ourmommyto try to be more considerate. Please accept our national Azeri sweets as a token of apology!

PS: Not nut-free!

Your loud neighbors, with love Farah & Hild!”

It’s quite clear from the video that Martina agrees with these sentiments, especially the one that it’s one of the cutest apologies ever. What makes it even better is that it’s not only very lovely, but it also promises to stop the noisiness in the early mornings, which was the initial wish that started the whole interaction.

Also, Martina’s household had the chance to learn that they might be living next to a future musician. Granted, they already heard thepiano, but they didn’t know it was coming from such motivated kids. Also, maybe we shouldn’t speculate on the future of these kids, but sometimes, it’s fun to simply dream, isn’t it?

Well, even if neither of these kids turns out to be big-time musicians in the future, there are still quite a few advantages to learning to play the piano.

According to “That Music Teacher” the benefits of learning an instrument include such things as rewiring the brain to be more efficient or constantly modeling perseverance in the name of a bigger goal. Also, it’s simply just a fun way to spend time, it reduces stress and works as a confidence boost and a form of self-expression.

About the latter, Bryson said: “There is often so much exposure to different musical styles and genres that can allow a child to build their own understanding of who they are and how they fit into the world around them. Add in the social aspect of making music with others and you add an entirely new layer of learning how to engage with their peers through music and because of music.”

Another fun benefit of kids learning to play an instrument is that it helps themlearn math. Yes, you read that right — math. While both subjects might seem to be on different sides of the spectrum, they actually have more similarities than one could have thought.

When learning an instrument, kids have to learn signatures, beats per minute, and formulaic progressions, so the part of the brain that is also responsible for doing math is activated.

So, maybe Martina’s neighbors aren’t future musicians but rather mathematicians? But again, maybe we shouldn’t speculate about them. Maybe we should just admire their motivation andcuriosityfor learning piano, even in the early mornings, and also appreciate their politeness in answering the complaint. And let’s just hope they’re going to keep the promise they made in the apology.
