Rob kicked off his drawing journey in 2016, always busy sketching comics. When he hit 30, he decided to explore the life of a freelance illustrator. So, he took a chance, jumped right in, and look where he is now!
Creativity is a fascinating journey that everyone experiences in different ways. But, there are some tricky parts along with the good stuff.Bored Pandacaught up with Rob again to delve into his creative journey. We were curious about the hurdles he faces in the creative process. Rob opened up about the difficulty of coming up with ideas that are not only enjoyable to draw but also resonate with others.
But there’s also a lot of fun in being an artist. “It feels amazing to make something out of nothing. When it all comes together perfectly, it’s like creating your own little burst of sunshine on a rainy day. That feeling is just so addictive,” said Rob.
Navigating through creative burnout is a common challenge for many artists. So, we asked Rob how he deals with creative burnout and what he does to recharge when he needs a break from his art. Rob responded candidly, saying, “Taking the time. Going for walks. Reading books. And, of course, crying in a corner and pitying myself for having to be creative.”
If you’re an aspiring comic artist who is just starting on your creative journey, Rob has some advice for you! “Make comics just for YOU. That’s how it starts. Don’t give yourself so much pressure or follow art rules. Just draw and make things that make you happy. In a while, that will make others happy, too.”
