Bored Pandareached out to Myeong-Minho to learn more about his creative process and himself. We were curious about his background as an artist. “I have never formally learned drawing professionally,” Myeong-Minho shared. “Since I was young, I enjoyed drawing cartoon characters. Then, in middle school, I participated in an art competition and even won an award. For high school, I enrolled in a cartoon art high school. Although I was accepted to an art college, due to my family’s financial situation, I had to give up my dream and enlist in the military.
After completing my military service, I worked various jobs here and there, trying everything possible. Then, one day while working in a factory, amidst the repetitive daily routine, a thought struck me: ‘What would I regret the most if I were to die?’ I realized that not pursuing what I truly wanted to do would be my biggest regret. So, I made up my mind to start drawing, the thing I wanted to do the most. From that moment on, I began to draw seriously.”
“Daddy’s shoes”
Myeong-Minho mainly draws inspiration from the people and stories within everyday life. “The diverse array of people and their countless stories seem to offer the most intriguing subject matter.”
“Good morning”
“I need a recharge”
As an artist, the road to creation isn’t always smooth sailing. There are hurdles and challenges that come in different shapes and sizes. For Myeong-Minho, money seems to be the most challenging aspect. “I don’t consider money a big problem because I see it simply as a means to achieve my dreams. However, I do think that a certain amount of money is necessary to keep moving forward. That’s why I overcome challenges for my dreams through drawing. I just draw pictures.”
