The fact that memes have impacted our culture and our humor is obvious, their popularity makes it hard to deny it. Possibly a more surprising thing is that it also hasan impact on our relationships. According to Oxford University psychologistDr. Mary Kempnich, we should not underestimate the power of sending a meme. “You basically are just showing each other that you exist, you care, and you want to make each other laugh, and it doesn’t really matter how your day is going.”It’s an equivalent of a postcard, if you will—a meaningful image that you send somebody to show that you are thinking of them. We give a gift of laughter and we move on.
