Bored Pandareached out to Vaughan Tomlinson to ask him some more questions about his recent comics. We were wondering what, according to him, are the most rewarding aspects of being a comic artist, and what keeps him motivated to continue creating. We found out: “I love drawing and being creative. I’ve been doing that my whole life. But what really motivates me to continue making cartoons is being able to connect with readers and other artists. It’s very rewarding knowing that my silly drawings can make someone’s day a little brighter.”
Knowing the variety of characters appearing in Tomlison’s work, we asked which one of them he finds the most funny for his fans. The artist told us: “One character that seems to always get a laugh is the Grim Reaper. I think that’s because the joke is relatable and makes light of a heavy concept we all tend to think about often: mortality. The Grim Reaper is a way to explore the human condition and deal with existential dread in a humorous way.”
We were also curious if, outside of his comic work, the author uses humor in his daily life. Vaughan said: “I think it’s incredibly important to try to be a positive influence on the people around you in whatever way you can. I believe that positive actions can inspire and motivate others to pay it forward. So it is possible to make the world a better place a little bit at a time, even if it is just brightening someone’s day with a joke or a kind gesture.”
Lastly, we asked the artist if there was anything he’d like to share with our readers, and we heard: “Apart from cartooning, I also paint and do illustration work. So keep an eye out for those projects and please give them a chance!”
