We reached out to the author of the “Daily Purrr” illustrations to ask some more questions about the series. Since the artist publishes a new drawing every day, we were wondering about rituals or routines they follow to maintain consistency in their creative process, especially on days when external factors may be challenging. We learned that: “It’s pretty hard to be consistent for so long, I’ve been doing this for almost 7 years (I guess). But after all, it’s part of my day now. When there are external factors like when I’m leaving town or going on vacation, I prepare drawings in advance. Not so long ago I came back from NY vacation and I forced myself to prepare more than 10 drawings in advance, that was hardcore.”
We were also curious if beyond social media, the artist has explored other avenues for sharing their art or engaging with their audience, such as art exhibitions, merchandise, or other creative projects. The illustrator shared with us: “I had a few exhibitions in real life, a few years back. The first exhibition was prepared when ‘Daily Purrr’ reached 100,000 followers. It was the first time when I ‘uncovered’ myself to people, I was like an anonymous artist. The first exhibition consisted of printed artwork and cat photos. Later I decided to make paintings and they were sold to people across the globe, from Tokyo to San Francisco. In total, I painted around 15 paintings. Two paintings were made in collaboration with my big friend and local artistKiwie.”
Next, we wanted to find out if, with such a substantial body of work, the artist has personal favorites among their doodles. The “Daily Purrr” author told us: “With this amount of drawings, it’s really hard to pick favorites. But usually, it works this way: when I like some of my doodles, my followers don’t like them as much as I do.”
Lastly, we asked about some specific goals or milestones the illustrator set for themselves as an artist. We found out that: “From the beginning, I didn’t have any goals for ‘Daily Purrr’, just started it for fun. After I gained a huge audience, I still didn’t have goals, but I figured for myself that I just wanted to make people smile every day, I guess that’s my main goal. I don’t look at any numbers anymore, but I’m always happy to see new people on my account!”
