Luis described his return to drawing as a rediscovery of the “simple joy of pen and ink.” He shared, “The turning point was a playful exercise with my nieces, where I created animals on paper that they could imagine as guardians of their dreams.” This exercise led to the development of his current style, which combines dreamy, intricate line work with a touch of sweetness and obscurity. Coelho noted, “Cats, in particular, became a focus due to their immense potential for varied interpretations and the positive response they received on social media.”
Discussing his process, Luis stated, “My process is fluid and intuitive… I let accidental lines or patterns influence the direction of the illustration.” He compared this approach to his earlier days of abstract painting, emphasizing a method where the pen takes on a life of its own.
