“When you spend so long in one place, it’s easy to become tired of the same thing,” agreed Ryan Prince, CEO and founder of UNCLE, who also commissioned the survey.“Having an escape within the space you live is so important, not only for your well-being but also to reduce the possibilities of becoming bored with where you live.”

Lori Miller, owner ofLGC Interior Design, tellsBored Pandathat when we follow the trends and colors of the year, we tend to grow tired of our homes quicker.“Seeing the same thing day after day becomes monotonous. Selecting the larger purchases that are designed for 20 or even 30 years in trendy color or with trendy materials quickly gets tiring. Thinkkitchensfor example.”

“Seeing the same thing day after day becomes monotonous. Selecting the larger purchases that are designed for 20 or even 30 years in trendy color or with trendy materials quickly gets tiring. Thinkkitchensfor example.”
Instead of chasing trends, Miller advises going for a well-thought-out design supplemented with classic basics. “The basics are set ahead of the trends so they remain fresh long after the market saturation. With a well-done background, simple changes keep things exciting,” she says.
Bored of their homes, nearly 1 in 10 adults would like to redecorate their spaces as often as every month. If you’re one of them and are looking to refresh your space for the new year, Miller suggests that changing wall colors with wallpaper or paint and adding new pillows or rugs can update a home without any major renovations.“Window treatments can also update a look but may also be an upscale cost depending on what you choose,” she added.

As Miller already mentioned, floors can also use some accessories. When they are left bare, it can create the feeling of emptiness and blandness. If you want a cozy space but you have dull floors with zero interest, add a rug. For a more eclectic, bohemian look, you can even consider layering them.
“Keeping backgrounds neutral and adding your personal items or things that make you happy can keep your home from getting boring. I believe in elegant touches of whimsy,” Miller concludes.
