Given the chance,Bored Pandareached out to the artist to find out a little bit more about his work. When asked what initially inspired him to start transforming ordinary urban objects into playful street art, OakOak said, “It’s exactly like when you are a child and you look at the clouds to find shapes that resemble things. I do the same in the street; I always look everywhere, at the ground and the walls, and try to see shapes appear.”
Choosing the locations and elements for his artwork seems to be more of an intuitive process for OakOak. He explained, “Generally, I don’t choose it; it’s more the elements or the location that choose me.”
OakOak’s materials and techniques vary depending on the urban elements he transforms. He detailed, “It really depends on the element I will paint. If it’s on the ground, it’s always stencil and spray, and for other interventions, it can be stencil and spray. It also could be paper and glue if the intervention is very small or if I have to be fast because of the place.”
Regarding specific themes or messages in his art, the artist told Bored Panda, “Generally, there is no specific message except perhaps poetry. If I can send a message about the environment, it’s great.” Looking towards future projects, he revealed, “Actually, I’m really excited about a project that concerns the voice and its graphic representation and the use of the smartphone to listen to it in the street. I’m working on it, and I will paint a lot of ‘voices’ soon in the streets.”
