“This photograph breaks boundaries between humans and animals. Showing that animals like humans have their own distinct personalities. The video of this turtle I posted went viral globally reaching over 800 million views across social/media channels as no one had ever seen a turtle blow bubbles while deep in the water out of their mouth. Scientists, marine biologists, and turtle experts were all blown away - never seen anything like it.”

Bored Pandareached out to one of the Gold winners, Ethan Su, who kindly shared more about his breathtaking shot of the night sky. We asked Ethan to share what inspired him to capture this moment.“I was so touched to see the Milky Way with the naked eye for the first time in 2019 and started to learn how to capture it with a camera with the landscape in here,” shared the photographer.

Bored Pandareached out to one of the Gold winners, Ethan Su, who kindly shared more about his breathtaking shot of the night sky. We asked Ethan to share what inspired him to capture this moment.

“I was so touched to see the Milky Way with the naked eye for the first time in 2019 and started to learn how to capture it with a camera with the landscape in here,” shared the photographer.

“This photo represents what nature is capable of doing.”

The Nature category featured diverse moments, from wildlife to macro photography. We were wondering how Ethan decided to showcase Taiwan’s ecological diversity, especially the alpine rhododendron.Ethan replied: “There are different kinds of flowers and trees to be found for my photography composition in different seasons. For the alpine rhododendron, due to the harsh and cold environment, it only blossoms every three years, and rare to see with such good conditions.”

Ethan’s collection highlights stargazing at over 3000m altitude. He shared what measures are taken to combat the light pollution in the park, making it possible to capture the beauty of the night sky.“Some volunteers dedicate their efforts to establishing Hehuan Mountain Dark Sky Park, they educate the tourists and community around this area on how to reduce light pollution to preserve a good place for stargazing. Except for the car light passing through this park, everywhere is dark and good for photography or stargazing,” explained Ethan.

The TIFA celebrates authenticity and creativity. Ethan shared how his photo reflects these values, and if he used any unique techniques to convey the landscape and dark sky he loves.“Shooting in dark conditions without too much noise is a challenge, I use different kinds of shooting techniques, like stacking/tracking/blue hour blend/stitching, for my collection to get good quality results for authenticity and creativity,” wrote Ethan.Lastly, Ethan explained his emotional ties to Hehuan Mountain: “Every time when I reach Hehuan Mt. and say hello to darkness, I can hear my heart beat under the starry night, and enjoy the sound of silence inside my heart. Let this magical, peaceful place and moment wash away any chaos in daily life.”

The TIFA celebrates authenticity and creativity. Ethan shared how his photo reflects these values, and if he used any unique techniques to convey the landscape and dark sky he loves.

It is one of the most beautiful elaborate mimicry creatures on the earth.I am working as a researcher at a medical company but I want to concentrate on shooting in 2022.”

“During my expedition to Antarctica, I met and took a series of photos with magnificent King Penguins. Observation of the colony, their habits, and communication brought great pleasure and interest in the further study of these amazing animals. There are 450,000 pairs of King Penguins in South Georgia, which is about half the world’s population. The island has more than 30 colonies in total.”
